Fail-Safe Vs. Fail-Secure Locks

Electric strikes can be either fail-secure, fail-safe or reversible. A fail-secure lock is opened by applying electrical current to the lock, meaning that it will remain locked in the case of a power outage. A fail-safe lock, on the other hand, locks when electrical current is applied, meaning that it remains unlocked in the case of a power outage. Reversible locks can, as the name indicates, be switched between the two.
